Margot's 70th

Wave is a grass-roots charitable organisation, and for the past 10 years has provided places in Muswell Hill for people of all abilities to meet and have fun together. The great thing is that what we do benefits everyone. Anxieties are lessened, attitudes to difference are challenged and people’s behaviour changes when we do things with and not for each other. The Thacker family have been loyal supporters since Margot and Elizabeth participated in our first workshop, exploring the feasibility of running a social group for young adults - Elizabeth became a valued member of the resulting group. Research we conducted last year shows that 61% of adults in the UK are interested in mixed abilities socialising but only 12% do so regularly. We have found a simple way to bridge that gap by providing places that make it easy for people with and without learning disabilities to comfortably mix. Wave, currently run totally by volunteers, wants other communities to benefit from its WithNotFor ethos and practical experience.
