The Story
Long term supporter of our home, Betty Thompson, has very kindly hand knitted this unique Eriskay Jersey to help us raise much needed funds.
Eriskay Jersey's are traditional jerseys knitted by the women of Eriskay for their fishermen husbands. The finely knitted seamless jersey was crafted this way for warmth and to keep out the damp. Intricate patterns were used which had an individual pattern for each fisherman and it is said that this was to enable identification, if a fisherman was lost at sea. Today, only a very small number of women still produce these jerseys. Thank you Betty and good luck bidders!
