The Story
In September 2024, I chose to raise money for The Butterfly Tree, which enabled them to build two new classroom blocks in Simukumbwa.
Visiting the new classrooms in Simukumbwa redefined the word "remote." It was a 7-hour journey to the school. We were welcomed with singing, dancing, and pure joy.
These two new classrooms are transforming lives. Kids who previously stayed at home due to poor conditions can now attend in a safe, welcoming environment.
The students range in age from 4 to 11. So far, 280 kids have registered. During the day, the kids are split into 2-hour sessions; education is provided for the adults at night. The school has become a hub for social and civic activities.
Currently, three dedicated teachers are community-funded. A trained government teacher has been assigned and will join once the accommodation is built. Once the school is complete, the Ministry of Education will provide ongoing support and staffing.
We need more funds to build teachers' accommodation, toilets, desks and chairs. I have a Lions preview lunch on 11th June at Smith & Wollensky London. For tickets, email sales@vultd.co.uk
I am doing a Founders Wall at the entrance to the school, where all donors above £1k will have their names on a board. Be great to have your name there! Any amount helps. £110 will fund an orphan for a year, £550 for their entire primary school years.
Your donation, no matter the size, will directly impact these children's lives. Please join us in making this dream a reality. Thank you for your generosity.
About The Butterfly Tree
The Butterfly Tree, founded in 2006, is a non-political UK charity and Non-Government Organisation in Zambia. It is run entirely by volunteers and supports orphans and rural communities decimated by the HIV pandemic. The charity drills boreholes, constructs health and education facilities, implements food security projects, provides malaria and HIV prevention, community housing, sustainable income-generating enterprises for women, sports projects, and an orphan support programme.
