Story of Padre Pio Eco-Learning Centre Project in Koforidua

We run an international sustainable Eco-Learning Centre project that helps to protect our environment through recycling. This unique project comprises of a library, computer Lab and a farm that we set up in existing Schools. Using recyclable resources, we set up the Eco-learning Centre Projects in some of the most destitute places in Africa, with the aim of ending poverty through literacy, digital skills and practical education in Farming. Africa has the largest population of young people in the world (65% are below 35 years old). For this reason, our special focus is to provide African children with sustainable tools to help combat deprivation to help them lift themselves out of the ills of poverty, while learning to look after their environment, as a commitment to helping to save the planet. This unique Eco-Learning Centre project tackles 14 (nos.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 & 17) out of the 17 United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

We set up sustainable Eco-Learning Centres (ELCs) comprising of a library, computer Lab and a farm in Schools, using recyclable resources. Our aim is to end poverty through literacy, education in farming and digital skills, in under-resourced communities in Sub-Saharan-African countries. Africa has the largest population of young people in the world, with nearly one quarter (23%) of the world’s under 25-year-olds, being African. This population is estimated to grow to 42% in 2030. Therefore, this growing population of young Africans presents a powerful opportunity for economic growth with the potential to make great contributions to the world in future. This will only be possible if they are given equal access to education. We want to help reverse the trend that the current high unemployment is having on young Africans, which results in civil unrest and mass migration to Europe, to escape poverty. For this reason, our special focus is to provide African children with sustainable tools to help combat deprivation to enable them to become resilient and productive. Our hope is that the Eco-learning Centre facilities we offer in Schools, will empower them to lift themselves out of the ills of poverty, while learning to look after their environment, as a commitment to helping to save the planet. This Eco-Learning Centre project tackles 14 (nos.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 & 17) out of the 17 United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.See other opportunities to help us here.
