Providing accessible health information for the people of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, like many developing countries, faces a critical problem when it comes to public health information. Because the medical system is in English, the people of Sri Lanka do not have access to a reliable or complete source of health information on demand. We are solving this problem by creating a free online health information library for the people of Sri Lanka in Sinhala and Tamil This is achieved by translating health articles from 'NHS choices'- a world class health information source We contract bilingual Sri Lankans, largely medical students for this work so we directly contribute to Sri Lanka's economical development too, by creating jobs and training skills within these communities. Once translated, health articles are hosted in Sinhala/Tamil for people to access freely and openly- forever. This means that people suffering from disease are finally given access to the health information they need to lead healthier lives. So far we have translated 120,000 words, over 900,000 characters and have 38 active members. We are now growing rapidly with turnover of over 3000 words per day so at the current rate, our library will achieve 1,000,000 words in 12 months and will become the biggest modern health literature source in Sinhala/Tamil - in the world. 100% of your donations will go towards achieving this goal!
