The Story

By the time a preschool playgroup stopped using the Braeport Centre in 2016, the adjacent garden area, had become neglected and overgrown. In 2018, the Development Trust decided to transform the garden into one which could be used and enjoyed by all centre users but including those attending the Braeport Memory Cafe. A design plan was prepared by a volunteer landscape architect and £8000 of the required £13000 has been received from a variety of sources with additional grant funding expected soon. Work commenced in 2019 using a combination of volunteer labour and private local contractor. So far we have cleared the site, built a large raised bed and pergola and are currently creating borders. A contractor will soon be laying a hard surface suitable for buggy and wheelchair access to the raised bed. We still require funds for procurement of trees, shrubs and other plants for bed & borders by late Spring 2020. This public appeal hopes that £1500 can be raised from community donations.
