The Story

With your help, in 2023 we want to: • Grow awareness of the problem of large, deliberately neglected, areas of supposedly protected open land – ensuring fundable visions with visuals are in place for each site, securing at least one piece of media coverage per potential new park, plus coverage around the broader issue. • Grow commitment of local decision makers to maintain site protection and stand up for public access as part of their climate change mitigation and biodiversity strengthening. We will endeavour to secure commitment from at least one Councillor, MP or London politician in relation to each site. We will also challenge reductions of public access to these sites where needed and ensure public access rights are enforced using free or low cost legal support. • Grow interest and excitement amongst decision makers around new park creation: We will seek to influence local plans and the broader London plan around the need to better protect these sites through new park creation. We will run a webinar targeting key decision makers. We will also use weight the More Natural Capital Coalition, a coalition of 15 environmental charities working in London that CPRE London convenes, to create a clear demand from across the environmental charity sector for London for the creation of Ten New Parks for the capital. Please give if you can to help us to undertake this important work.

CPRE London

London has many areas of privately owned and protected land that has been deliberately neglected or taken out-of-use by owners who ‘landbank’ the value as an investment. Ten New Parks supports local residents campaigning for a better future for these sites. Ten New Parks is CPRE London’s project to help bring these sites back into use for public amenity, helping better protect these sites by creating visions and advocating for new parks and nature reserves.
