The Story
For several years, the Caravana has orchestrated a unique form of activism through its sponsored walks. This initiative not only rallies support but also garners crucial funds for a noble cause: aiding human rights defenders in Colombia. The treacherous conditions and significant challenges faced by these defenders, along with the victims they represent, require persistent and dedicated support from the global community. Each step taken by participants in these walks symbolizes a stride towards justice and awareness.
This year, the tradition continues with an invigorating 10-kilometer walk scheduled for June 29th.
The funds raised from this event are earmarked for a critical cause. In August, a delegation from the Caravana will travel to Colombia. The money collected will help cover the expenses of the lawyers and the communities they advocate for. During this mission, these defenders will have the opportunity to meet with international representatives. This meeting is crucial—it's a chance to exchange knowledge, strategize on pressing human rights issues, and amplify their plight to a global audience.
Colombian Caravana
At the heart of Caravana's project to visit Colombia in August 2024 is a series of fundraising activities, with the contributions from both our members and the general public making a significant impact. On June 29th, Caravana will host a 10-kilometer charity walk aimed at supporting Human Rights defenders in Colombia. The donations gathered during this event are vital for our mission, as they will help cover the expenses of lawyers and their communities who will engage with an international delegation. This engagement is essential for exchanging knowledge and raising awareness about their situations, furthering our commitment to human rights advocacy.
Route Details:
We will be meeting at the main entrance of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, King Charles Street at 2.45pm for a 3pm start. The walk will take us through St James’s park, Green Park and Hyde Park, through Fulham and Chelsea to Albert Bridge; we will make our way to Battersea Park, Peace Pagoda ending at the Pear Tree cafe.
