The Story
The Colombian Caravana has a vibrant and active membership. Many of our members are involved in the Caravana’s voluntary work, and our membership is the organisation's lifeblood. The Caravana treasures the contribution that members make, and all members have a role to play in furthering the objectives of the Caravana. Thus, membership donations are vital to the organisation's financial sustainability.
The Caravana is a relatively inexpensive organisation to run. Right now, however, your donation is as vital as ever, as Colombia goes through a difficult period of transitional justice, and violence against lawyers and human rights defenders is increasing, particularly to due to challenges surrounding the implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement.
Colombian Caravana
Colombian Caravana, a UK based charity, was founded in response to the call for solidarity from Colombian lawyers and human rights defenders, emerging 13 years after the “Without Lawyers, No Justice” campaign. Colombia is among the countries with the highest number of lawyers and human rights defenders killed worldwide. Nearly a decade after the 2016 peace accord ending a 50-year conflict, violence has reemerged in new forms and there have been over 1,500 human rights defenders assassinated.
With eight accompaniment and advocacy missions organised to date - the most recent in August 2024 - your membership will help support the 9th International Delegation to Colombia and the advocacy work carried out in its wake. This delegation will investigate and report on the current situation facing lawyers and human rights defenders across the country at a critical juncture.
