The Story

The Colombian Caravana-UK Group, in partnership with Colombian human rights lawyers and defenders, is excited to announce the Eighth International Caravana of Jurists: The New Challenges of accessing justice in Colombia: Navigating gender and ethnic dynamics amidst corporate abuses. This pivotal event aims to shed light on the pressing human rights issues faced by Colombia and offers a platform for dialogue, advocacy, and action. About the Caravana: The Caravana serves as the nexus for delegates eager to engage with the human rights landscape in Colombia. This edition offers: • Insightful Retrospective: Reflecting on the challenges highlighted in the 2022 report, such as escalating violence, unmet peace agreements, and systemic barriers. • Colombia's Current Landscape: Despite strides towards peace, Colombia grapples with ongoing violence, affecting rural regions, Indigenous territories, Afro-Colombian communities, and marginalized urban areas. • Gender Dynamics: Highlighting the crucial role of women in peacebuilding and the barriers they face, including gender-based violence and societal norms. • Ethnic Dynamics: Recognizing the challenges faced by indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, including violence, forced recruitment, displacement, and discrimination. • Corporate Accountability: Addressing the nexus between corporate interests and human rights abuses, especially concerning environmental conflicts and land dispossession. Delegation Approach & Objectives: The Eighth Delegation is committed to: • Understanding the intricate challenges faced by human rights lawyers and defenders. • Spotlighting the gender and ethnic dynamics intertwined with the escalating violence. • Engaging in first-hand interviews, dialogues, and collaborations to gain insights and formulate actionable recommendations. • Advocating for policy reforms, legislative amendments, and structural changes to ensure justice, protect vulnerable populations, and address gender-based violence and corporate accountability. Join us in amplifying the voices of those impacted by these challenges, fostering international solidarity, and paving the way for a just and enduring peace in Colombia.
