The Story

The Colombian Caravana is a small organisation and relies on donations from its supporters in order for it to effectively carry out its work. The Colombian government is now committed to implementing the Peace Agreement and transitional justice, but violence against lawyers and human rights defenders continues to happen; Colombia is still in conflict. Human rights organisations and lawyers continue to defend access to justice, judicial independence, and the freedom to protect rights. The recommendations contained in the report of the Truth Commission (published in June 2022) are helping to progress dialogue and will hopefully help the country move forward. Therefore, as a Caravana, we will continue to support Colombian human rights lawyers with advocacy actions such as the launch of the Report of the VII Caravana, which took place in August 2022. Your donations will help us to publish this Report (including editing, designing, translating, and printing in Spanish and English), as well as providing other vital services such as assistance with trial observations, amicus curiae, urgent letters, Colombian Lawyers’ tour to the UK, and virtual webinars with Colombian lawyers and Caravana members.

"The continued efforts to defend human rights, the rule of law and access to justice for all especially those who are so far from the capital and are forgotten by the state and who have to endure threats, attacks, forced recruitment of children into the para military organisations and the assassination of activists and those who represent them. Without lawyers there is no justice, and in this long period of the search for peace since the peace accord was signed in 2016, the role of judges and lawyers in the transitional justice system is all the more important. While justice is under threat the international community must provide strong support. Thank you Caravana supporters We must do what we can."
