WATERFORD VILLAGE HALL
Help Us Build a New Waterford Village Hall
A new hall for Waterford — built by the community, for the community
Waterford Village Hall has been at the heart of our village for generations. It is where people come together to celebrate, meet, take part in activities, clubs and events, and where friendships are made.
Now we need your help to secure its future.
We are raising £500,000 towards the construction of a new Waterford Village Hall.
This is a major community project, but one that will create a lasting facility for Waterford and future generations.
Why do we need a new hall?
The existing village hall was built in the 1960s by residents of Waterford, with the Waterford Recreation Committee established to manage the hall and recreation ground for the benefit of the village.
More than 60 years later, the building is showing its age.
The hall is now in considerable disrepair, including:
a leaking asbestos roof
a wooden floor that is subsiding along one side
outdated toilet facilities
an ageing building that is increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain
We want to make sure that Waterford continues to have a village hall — but one that is safe, welcoming, accessible and suitable for the needs of our community today and in the future.
A new hall for the next generation
We have developed plans for a purpose-built new village hall on land owned by the Waterford Recreation Committee.
The proposed building will provide a spacious main hall, a committee room, modern kitchen facilities, improved toilet facilities including an accessible toilet, storage areas and a welcoming entrance.
The design has been developed to provide a flexible space that can support the many different activities that make village life so important.
It will be a place for:
Community groups and clubs
Meetings and activities, exercise groups
Parties and celebrations, social events
Local events and organisations
Children and families
Older residents and people feeling isolated
Sport, recreation and social activities
Most importantly, it will provide a place where the whole community can come together.
A project with a long history
The story of Waterford's recreation facilities goes back almost 100 years.
In 1927, the recreation ground — including the land on which the current village hall stands — was bequeathed by the Abel Smith family to the Diocese of St Albans and the Waterford Parochial Church Council, specifically for the benefit of Waterford residents.
In 2012, with significant financial contributions from local residents, the Waterford Recreation Committee purchased 1.3 acres of land on the west bank of the River Beane, between the recreation ground and Tree Heritage.
That land, now owned freehold by the Waterford Recreation Committee, is the proposed site for our new village hall.
This means that the new hall can be built without losing the use of the existing hall while construction takes place. Our existing facilities can continue serving the community while we work towards creating the new one.
This really is a community project
The original hall was built by the people of Waterford.
The land for the new hall was purchased with the help of the people of Waterford.
And now we are asking the community to help us build its future.
Every donation, whatever its size, will help.
£10, £50 or £100 might seem like a small contribution towards a £500,000 project, but if everyone who cares about Waterford contributes what they can, those donations will add up.
If you are able to make a larger donation, or if you represent a local business or organisation that would like to support the project, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Help us reach £500,000
A village hall is much more than a building.
It is somewhere to meet a neighbour.
Somewhere to celebrate a milestone.
Somewhere for children to take part in activities.
Somewhere for clubs and community groups to thrive.
Somewhere to come together when the village needs it.
We want to create a hall that Waterford can be proud of — and that will serve the village for decades to come.
Please help us make that happen.
Thank you
