The Story
Hello!
We are three trainee clinical psychologists hoping to raise funds to support our innovative final placement in Malawi for 6 weeks in July 2023. During this placement, we will explore and support developing mental health services and promote psychological wellbeing within communities. The project has been developed as a knowledge exchange, where different perspectives on mental health can be shared and best practice ideas cultivated. We are really excited for this opportunity to learn about different cultural beliefs around mental health and approaches to supporting holistic wellbeing. Our hope is that we will be able to take learning and skills developed in Malawi and use them to inform our practice as newly qualified psychologists working in the NHS.
We are working closely with a charity called the Umoza Trust, who aim to improve the lives of people living with mental health difficulties, disability or disadvantage around the globe. The charity is a not-for-profit organisation recognised as charitable by HMRC. The word umoza means "together" in Malawi, the birthplace of The Umoza Trust. Their guiding principle is working together with professionals in Malawi to learn from each other. Further information about the Umoza Trust can be accessed via the website (umozatrust.org )
Thanks for taking the time to look at our page, and a huge thank you to those who feel they can donate - anything and everything is very much appreciated!
