The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust
The Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust has in its care the last remaining traditional fleet of Norfolk Broads hire yachts.
Our purpose is to ‘Advance the education of the public by the provision of facilities for sail training and to maintain, promote, restore, conserve, improve and develop historic and traditional sailing and other craft relating to the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads for the public benefit’.
Young people are at the heart of our charitable activities and have been since 1967 when the Yard and fleet was bought by Norfolk County Council to be used as its county sailing base. The Council’s aim was to encourage young people to sail and experience the team spirit involved in sailing. This is still true today.
In 1996 the Council sold the operation and it became a charity – the Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust. The Trust continues this youth work.
The fleet is also available for hire. All surplus income goes to maintaining the historic fleet and using it to introduce children and young people to the unique environment of the Broads and to the challenges and triumphs of sailing.
