The Story
It’s not quite a total solar eclipse, but it’s still a rare event – James is getting his hair cut! Having raised thousands of pounds over the years from a handful of haircuts, this year James is once again sitting down in the barbers’ chair to get a trim in aid of the InfraRed Charitable Foundation.
To reward those who donate early, the person who has donated the largest sum by the midnight before the haircut on October 14th will be permitted to have the first shave of James’ hair.

The InfraRed Charitable Foundation
The Foundation exists to reduce barriers to education for disadvantaged young people and help those who need it most. Today, schools face challenges that extend far beyond the classroom, with rising mental health issues, family instability and increasing safeguarding concerns affecting many young people. More than 1.28 million children were persistently absent from school in autumn 2024, and the poorest students are five times more likely to be permanently excluded from education.
Through its Community Engagement Lead programme, the Foundation funds dedicated individuals within schools who work with vulnerable young people and their families, helping them access the support, guidance, and opportunities they need to succeed. For some children, this can mean having a trusted adult to turn to during a difficult period, re-engaging with education, or receiving help before challenges become crises.
