The Story
On Thursday 3rd July at 18:00 James Olding will be getting a haircut for charity.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with James’ hairdressing schedule, it has now been over 20 months since his last charity haircut, which raised over £2,100 for Happy Space.
This year, the event is in support of the InfraRed Charitable Foundation (“ICF”) which is a charity that was established by partners of InfraRed in 2020. The Foundation’s primary objective is promoting social inclusion, which it hopes to achieve by reducing barriers to educational attainment.
To reward those who donate early, the person who has donated the largest sum by midnight on Wednesday 2nd July will be permitted to have the first shave of James’ hair.
The InfraRed Charitable Foundation
The InfraRed Charitable Foundation is an independent charity which provides grants to schools to fund the employment of Community Engagement Leads, who have the goal of reducing the impact of disproportionate barriers to education. Community Engagement Leads do this by organising initiatives to benefit disadvantaged students and coordinating local charities to contribute resources to the school community.
In 2024, the InfraRed Charitable Foundation awarded its second grant to Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Croydon to tackle youth violence and educational challenges. The school’s new Community Engagement Lead, who has deep ties to the area, focuses on pupil safeguarding and academic achievement. He leads a prevention programme, connect students with community groups, and creates work experience opportunities. The school was targeted as it has faced significant challenges, including a 2021 knife crime tragedy and a high proportion of students eligible for free school meals or lacking Level 3 qualifications.
