Manal, Murat & their local community in Clapton are hosting a fundraiser Iftar (breaking the fast meal) for the Hanoon Foundation: In Support of Medical Training in Palestine, on Sunday 15 March 2026. It's Mother's Day too! A happy one to all! Iftar will be followed Live music by world-class, multi-instrumentalist & percussionist, Jack Yglesias & other guest musicians. We will be making vegan & non-vegan Palestinian dishes: 3-course meal. Context: Ramadan is the time for community and get-together. Generosity and sharing. Reflection and contemplation. Discipline and determination. Compassion and care. Solidarity and love. Over two years of genocide left Gaza flattened. People displaced, starved, with life-changing injuries. Life itself has been and continues to be targeted. And so has the infrastructure that sustains it: homes, livelihoods, education, health and the list goes on. Palestinian healthcare system, already de-developed by decades-long Israel's military occupation, is now on its knees. Over 1,700 healthworkers have been killed, including 200+ medical doctors. The targeting is not only of Gaza but the West Bank too. The economy is in free fall. The Hanoon Foundation, for nearly 30 years, has been at the forefront of building a sustainable healthcare system. They helped set up the first medical school in Palestine, including the training of medical doctors. Every penny we raise will go to supporting talented medical students, in Gaza and the West Bank, whose families are no longer able to cover their tuition fees. We’re living testing, defining times. Our response to fascism, genocide, impunity & power is building communities of love, care & solidarity.
