The Story
On Saturday 28 June I’m running 100 miles in 24 hours to raise money for The Freya Foundation. I’m taking part in Endure 24 as a solo participant, where I will run a 5 mile trail in Bramham Park in Leeds, 20 times in 24 hours!
Chloe and Catherine’s story
Having a baby is such a wonderful and miraculous experience. All you want is to protect them, for them to be happy and, above all, healthy.
This was no different for Catherine when she first saw Chloe. I can’t imagine how devastating it must have been when Catherine first realised that there was something wrong. Her beautiful little girl wasn’t well.
Catherine first realised there was something different about Chloe when she was just 8 weeks old and failed to meet her first milestones. What followed was 2 years of referrals and tests until Chloe was diagnosed with Ppyruvate Dehydrogenase Deficiency complex (PDH) in October 2023 aged 2 years and 3 months.
About The Freya Foundation
The Freya Foundation is a really small charity which was set up by Kelly and Dave, whose daughter Freya also suffers from PDH. Their mission is to develop and share information and advice about PDH. By working with doctors and other medical specialists they hope to find out more about PDH including the diagnosis, the different treatments and managing the condition.
PDH is a neurodegenerative disorder which impacts the way your body derives energy from carbohydrates. People who have this condition find that their body is deprived of energy and often suffer from a neurodevelopmental delay. One of the most serious features is a potentially life-threatening buildup of lactic acid. The most frightening thing about PDH is that symptoms of this condition usually first appear shortly after birth.
So please will you sponsor me and help to raise money to help children like Chloe live longer and healthier lives.
