Paws, Sweat & Cheers!

I'm running a marathon. Considering I've never really liked running, this is probably/most definitely a mid-life crisis... But I feel like a marathon is something everyone should experience at least once in their life, so here we are! The day will be Sunday 9th November and I am running the Athens Marathon - Known as the "original" marathon, legend has it that messenger Pheidippides ran this historical route from the battlefield in Marathon to Athens in 490 BC to announce Greek victory over the Persians. He then proceeded to collapse and die from exhaustion 😳 Let's hope my run goes a little better! 😅 While it seems like everyone is out there running marathons these days, I can quite honestly say it's one of the hardest things I've ever put myself through... The long training runs feel brutal. In my hardest of moments, I've been tempted to say it's soul-destroying, but let's just call it character building! 😂 I also discovered (after signing up for the race) that from kilometer 10 to kilometer 31, the Athens marathon is all uphill 😳 Double the fun then! 😂 So, for all this effort I'm putting in, I've decided I should do this for a good cause and raise some money for some four-legged friends - SUPERDOGS RESCUE. This is a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abandoned dogs from Cyprus, many of which end up in forever homes in the UK. The charity is fully run by volunteers so all the money collected goes directly to helping these animals. Having grown up in Cyprus and with my family having adopted so many stray dogs off the streets over the years, I can tell you first hand that there are unfortunately many, MANY animals that are in desperate need of help on the island.
