The Story
Maties in Scotland Care
In 2026, the Scotland Chapter has made a bold decision. This will be our year of impact.
We are committing to support one student for an entire academic year through Move4Food, Stellenbosch University’s student-focused initiative addressing food insecurity. Across 125 teaching days, we aim to provide one meal per day to a student who would otherwise go without.
That is 125 meals. 125 days of dignity. 125 days of choosing learning over survival. At £5 per meal.
In Scotland, that is a modest spend. A coffee and something small to eat. An everyday purchase we hardly think twice about.
On our Stellenbosch campus, it can be the difference between a student fully present in a lecture or quietly battling hunger while trying to concentrate.
Each year, more than 1,000 students approach the campus social worker because they do not have sufficient resources to cover basic food costs. For some, the choice is stark: buy a loaf of bread to stretch across a week, or purchase the textbook required to pass a module.
As Maties in Scotland, we can ease that burden.
We invite you to donate £5 to cover one meal. You are most welcome to give more and extend your impact even further. A relatively small gesture here can have a profound and practical effect in Stellenbosch. Our aim is to raise £625 in 2026.
