London Alumni Chapter | 2026 Year of Impact As alumni and friends of Stellenbosch University based in London, we remain deeply connected to the place that shaped us. We know what it means to work hard, to grow in confidence, and to cross the graduation stage ready to take on the world. But for too many final-year students today, that final step is uncertain. Talented, capable students reach the end of their degrees only to face outstanding tuition, accommodation and living costs through circumstances beyond their control. Without support, they risk completing their studies academically, yet being unable to graduate with their degree and transcript in hand. Instead of stepping into opportunity, they are left facing debt. In a South African economy marked by critically high youth unemployment, this moment matters. The difference between graduating debt-cleared and graduating with fees outstanding can determine whether a young professional secures employment in their chosen field or remains locked out of the very future they have worked so hard to build. That is why the London Alumni Chapter has chosen to act. Through the GradMe initiative, we are supporting the UK–EU Bursary Fund, which assists final-year students who cannot afford to complete their studies. Our goal is clear. In 2026, we have set ourselves an ambitious, but not insurmountable, target of raising £10,000 to help students cross the final hurdle, graduate with dignity and honour, and step into gainful employment in their chosen professional careers. This is more than a fundraising campaign. It is a commitment. A commitment to ensuring that no Matie falls at the final hurdle. A commitment to strengthening South Africa through educated, employable graduates. A commitment to investing in future entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders who will in turn impact others. Every contribution moves us closer to that £10,000 goal. Every gift removes a barrier. Every donor becomes part of a student’s success story.
