The Story

On Sunday, 14 September, I will be taking on the incredible challenge of the London to Brighton Cycle Ride—a gruelling 55-mile (88km) journey from the heart of London to the iconic Brighton seafront. But I’m not just riding for the thrill of the challenge—I’m riding with a purpose! I am raising £1,000 to support the UK-EU Bursary Fund at Stellenbosch University, a vital initiative that helps academically gifted students from financially marginalised backgrounds cross the final hurdle to graduation. Why This Cause Matters Graduating from university should be a moment of triumph, but for many students at Stellenbosch University, outstanding tuition fees and student debt stand in the way of their future. Without proof of their degree or transcripts—often withheld due to unpaid fees—graduates are unable to secure employment and contribute to South Africa’s economy. Stellenbosch University, ranked among the top 1% of universities worldwide, has the highest graduation success rate in South Africa. This means that students who complete their degrees are highly likely to find meaningful employment in a country where unemployment rates stand at 35%. However, many graduates are unable to take up job offers because they cannot access their official academic records due to outstanding debt. The UK-EU Bursary Fund was launched to change this, ensuring that students with the talent and determination to succeed are not held back by financial barriers. By supporting this fund, you are investing in the future of young South Africans—helping them to enter the workforce, support their families, and contribute to a more equitable society. How You Can Help Your donation, no matter the size, will help alleviate the financial burden on these students and give them the opportunity to step into their careers debt-free. And if you’re a UK taxpayer, don’t forget to activate Gift Aid! The HMRC will add an extra 25% to your donation at no extra cost to you. I would love your support—both on the road and in making a difference for Stellenbosch University students! Donate today and help turn academic success into real-world opportunity. Thank you for your generosity!
