The Story
I'm Jo-Maree Alcock and on Sunday, 19 October 2025, I’ll be taking on my biggest running challenge yet: my first full marathon! After years of enjoying half marathons, I’ve decided it’s time to push myself a little further – and since my husband and I now live in the Netherlands, doing it in Amsterdam feels just right.
Running has become something I really value – not just for the physical challenge, but because it brings together so many things that are important to me: health, being outdoors, community, and a sense of purpose.
This year, I want to make my marathon about more than just the 42.2 km. I’m dedicating it to raising funds for a cause that matters deeply to me: the EU-UK Bursary Fund at Stellenbosch University, my alma mater.
This bursary helps students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in South Africa who dream of studying at Stellenbosch but face financial obstacles. By supporting this fund, we can open doors for future Maties – giving them the chance to grow, learn, and be part of a vibrant, world-class university community in South Africa.
