“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
– Nelson Mandela, awarded an honorary doctorate by Stellenbosch University in 1996
This belief in the transformative power of education lies at the heart of the Stellenbosch University SA Foundation UK.
Established in 2004 by Mr William Frankel OBE, a longstanding friend of the University, the Foundation was created as a registered charity in the United Kingdom. Its purpose is to provide a trusted and transparent vehicle through which alumni and friends, including those based in the Netherlands, can support the advancement of education in South Africa through Stellenbosch University.
The Foundation is registered with the UK Charity Commission and also holds official ANBI status with the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst), enabling donors in the Netherlands to make tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Dutch regulations.
The strength and global standing of any university are shaped not only by academic excellence, but by the commitment of its alumni and friends. Through the Foundation, supporters based outside South Africa can invest in scholarships, bursaries, academic initiatives and strategic projects that enhance the educational offering and expand access to opportunity.
We invite you to remain connected, to be involved, and to help shape the future of Maties, in South Africa, across Africa, and globally.
