The Story
Save the Children has been active in the field of asylum since 1995, carrying out a number of projects providing educational and social services to the specific needs of asylum-seeking and refugee children, including unaccompanied minors and relocated persons. In the 25 years of activity in the field of asylum, over 7,700 children and their families have benefited from daily activities, financial assistance, social and psychological counseling, and material and educational support.
The purpose of Save the Child interventions is to ensure and promote respect for the rights of asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection, but also to help improve their situation by providing integrated services to respond promptly to children's needs upon arrival in Romania during the procedure asylum and after obtaining international protection, in order to integrate socially and educationally.
So far, we have provided humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian children and their families: over 4500 beneficiaries and we anticipate that we will work with 10,000 beneficiaries/month.
We are currently present in 11 locations: asylum seeker centers in Galați, Rădăuți, Somcuta Mare, Timișoara, and Bucharest; the border crossing points from Siret, Sighet, Isaccea; refugee camps in Siret and Radauti; Bucharest North Railway Station.
The company's help, together with the contributions of other donors, will ensure the extension of the Save the Children Romania intervention and the preparation of teams of specialists (psychologists, educators, volunteers) for an influx of refugees that is expected to be more intense in the coming days. Unfortunately, probably weeks.
Specifically, financial support from the company and the active involvement of employees in response to the current crisis in Ukraine will allow:
- development of complex Save the Children assistance - psycho-emotional counseling, communication in Ukrainian, counseling on the legal rights of refugees;
- distribution of essential kits adapted to as many children as possible;
- providing financial assistance for travel to other destinations for families with children who do not wish to seek asylum and remain in border areas.
- Spaces for mother and child, especially for those with newborns, and more.
- SIM cards, meal vouchers, etc
