The Story
As the need for more new buildings declines, the student population continues to increase, leading to additional educational requirements and costs associated to ongoing maintenance. As such, we continually fundraise for these overheads, and encourage you to consider supporting Nalango Secondary School through One Mile Closer and donate using the button.
One Mile Closer
Following the untimely deaths of Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson in a climbing accident in January 2009, a group of family, old and new friends followed in their footsteps and echoed their passion by cycling from John O' Groats to Lands End in August 2009. The funds raised were put towards supporting the fledgling Nalango Secondary School in Uganda.
Whilst initially intended as a memorial ride, the spirit of the supporters and riders and the wish to continue supporting Nalango led to the formation of One Mile Closer. After 14 years, we have raised over £200,000 in support of the school, ultimately providing Classrooms, living and educational facilities along with education materials, exam and training support, sporting and musical equipment. We have also invested in infrastructure for sanitation and solar power.
