Running for Research!

Cancer does not discriminate and sadly, we all have had an experience with it. Whether you've had your own battle or you have a parent, sibling or dear friend who has been affected by this terrible disease you will be aware that the reality is that cancer cuts dreams short and wrecks lives; and the only way that we can one day hope for a cancer-free future is through research. That why Ruth, Emily & Christina (sadly Mandy is injured this year) have teamed up to run our hometown marathon: the 2025 TCS London Marathon on the 27 April 2025. We are excited to be doing it in one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world; and know that we will feel the massive support of sooo many of our friends and family. After Paris last year and other runs, we are not gluttons for punishment but believe strongly that research is fundamental for terrible diseases which tear apart so many lives. We are fundraising for Oncogene Cancer Research (OCR) which will in turn grant all funds to the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Oncogene Cancer Research was started by my super-star friend, Yvonne, soon after her stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. OCR funds research for cancers originating in the lungs and works hand in hand with the ICR. The ICR is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. Their mission is to make discoveries that defeat cancer. Some of their biggest discoveries include the identification of the BRCA2 gene in breast cancer; discovery of early chemo drugs and treatment for advanced prostate cancer, among many others. With Oncogene Cancer Research and others’ help, the ICR is also supporting research into mutation-driven lung cancers – which tend to impact younger people with none of the typical lung cancer risk factors. Your support will fund life-saving research for people with cancer. Every donation helps us get one step closer to a cancer-free future. Importantly, it helps brings much needed treatments nearer term as these lung cancers mutate and render current treatments useless. Together let's rewrite the future for those living with cancer.
