The Story
We’re excited to be upgrading our court lights, which will hugely improve the playing experience of everyone who plays evening tennis at our Club.
We pride ourselves on being a hardy bunch at Medstead, playing in all seasons, all weathers, and all hours (well, up to 10pm). This wouldn’t be possible without our court lighting, but our halide lights are now 28 years old and we estimate they’re now working at just 50-60% of their original specification.
So, it’s time to upgrade to modern LEDs and bring the light levels up to LTA recommended levels; eliminate warm up times; cut energy consumption by around 55% and reduce maintenance costs.
We’ve now appointed a contractor Carbon8 lighting and the upgrade will be completed in the week commencing January 26th. Yippee!
The cost will be just over £20,000. We’ve been generously supported with grants from East Hampshire District Council’s Community Climate Action Fund (£13,000) and the Wake Trust (£2,500) which together have covered around 75% of the cost.
But we’d like to close the remaining gap, so that we can maintain our reserves for important future investment, including resurfacing the courts and replacing the chain link fencing.
Any donations you can make to help fund the balance of this project, large or small, will be hugely appreciated. And thanks to the Club’s new charitable status, for every £1 you donate we can claim an extra 25 pence through Gift Aid.
Many thanks!
