People travel from across Sierra Leone, often walking for hours or even days, to reach this lifeline of care. Sierra Leone faces one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Many women and newborns lose their lives simply because they cannot access skilled care during childbirth. Across the country, there are fewer than 400 doctors serving a population of over 8 million people, and in rural areas like Masanga, the shortage is even greater. The hospital not only delivers essential medical care but also plays a crucial role in training the next generation of Sierra Leonean healthcare workers, helping to build a stronger and more sustainable health system for the future.
