The Story

During the recent expedition to Soma in August 2023, the Scouts become aware of the plight of Sira, who was facing significant challenges with the quality of her family's living conditions in the Pipeline village area of Soma. In addition to the urgent need for improved housing conditions, for which Kaira Konko & the Scout Expedition were able to provide immediate support, it became clear that the village does not have any access to a fresh water supply. Villagers have to walk long distances to obtain water and when they do, they must pay for the water. We are fundraising to install a new borehole for Pipeline village. This will benefit the current residents and improve the prospects of future generations. We have already received a generous donation for the initial funding but if you are able to donate towards this cause the village could benefit from an increased specification to provide more water for a greater number of families.

For many rural homes in The Gambia, access to clean water is just one more challenge for families. Free access to clean water is a basic necessity in low resource settings and will also enable the village residents to grow their own food to help meet nutrition gaps.
