The Story
I am a student at Lycée International De Londres Winston Churchill, enrolled in the IB program (international baccalaureate) and I’m currently in year 12. Part of the IB diploma is completing a CAS project which stands for, creativity, activity and service.
Since a young age my passion has always been football so I decided to combine all three of the CAS requirements and base my project on women and girls in football/sport. I decided that I wanted to organise a fundraising football event for a charity of my choice that promoted young girls and women in football. I picked the one that I was most drawn to which is Girls United FA because of their vision for girls around the world to have equal access to sport. They are bridging the gap between sport and education and work in London and Mexico. This charity quotes that they are, “a football club dedicated to empowering girls and young women aged 5 to 18 in south London”. Starting football at a really young age, I played in a boys team until the age of 6. I never felt like I had a place on the pitch and didn’t really enjoy it. Over the years although women’s football has been growing, I’ve noticed that women don’t get as much support as men. I trust that Girls United FA can help change this situation and put girls around the world on an equal footing as boys.
