The Story

Sugary drinks are the largest single source of sugar for children and teenagers. They offer no nutritional benefits to a nation already suffering high levels of obesity-related diseases and dental decay. Litter associated with bottled and canned sugary drinks accounts for a large quantity of the litter that is picked every month by volunteers in our Park. To tackle these issues, we want to install a bottle refill station, with an accessible water fountain and floor-level pet water bowl to: - promote healthy life choices in our community, especially children and young people - provide free healthy water for park users and their pets - reduce the use of single-use plastic containers - tackle litter Tarring Park is a busy recreation area, with a children’s playground, multi-use sports arena, picnic area, grass recreation green. It is very popular with people of all ages for exercise, socialising and recreation, it is used by runners and walkers, parents with young children, older children and teenagers, the elderly, dog walkers, keep fit and sports clubs, local schools and nurseries and social groups. There is currently no access to fresh drinking water in Tarring Park, and the need for it was identified in the Tarring Park Management Plan.
