The Story

Volunteers from Discovery SVS are holding various fundraising activities throughout the year to raise money for local groups in Swansea. Between July 1st and Sept 1st we will be raising funds to enable us to purchase products for Swansea Takes On Period Poverty (S.T.O.P.P.) stoppcampaign9.wixsite.com/website Your donations will go directly towards purchasing much needed products that will be give, for free, to people in need. Below are some words from the STOPP commitee: "Swansea Takes On Period Poverty (STOPP) was established with an ambitious vision to make Swansea a ‘Period Positive’ city (with support from periodpostive.com) where menstrual products are freely available to all who need them and to smash the shame, stereotypes and taboos around menstruation. We also promote ‘plastic free periods’ and sustainable solutions including reusable products, and want to improve education and awareness of menstrual health issues. Finally we seek to support international efforts to end period poverty around the world. Our main activity is to collect and distribute period products to individuals, groups and venues that need them. This includes foodbanks, asylum seekers support, domestic abuse services and many more. We give freely, no questions asked, to anyone irrespective of their age, race, religion, gender, disability or economic circumstances. We also carry out talks and workshops about our work and the issues of period poverty which for us is about poverty of language, education and body positivity just as much as it is about tightened financial circumstances."
