The Story
On 7 May, I’m going to do the Tiger Crane Sanzhan form 33 times nose-to-tail to raise money for The Claremont Project.
It’s a gruelling test of stamina and Kung Fu ability, which will help them to buy:
• A defibrillator
• Two emergency evacuation chairs
Claremont Project is a small independent charity providing classes, activities and events for over 55s in the Islington area, many of whom are vulnerable.
All the services Claremont provides are funded as a result of small fundraisers like this. They are not substantially funded by central or local government (about 5% of our funding is from Islington Council).
The defibrillator is something which could save someone’s life in the event their heart stops. They plan to get an automatic model which will tell the responder what to do. This is important because we want the device to be accessible not just to Claremont members and staff during opening hours but to any our building’s users and even to passers-by.
Cost, including training: £2,250
The evacuation chairs enable people who cannot easily navigate stairs get out in the event of a fire. The chairs have tracks, like a tank, rather than wheels and even a small, not very strong person can guide the chair and passenger down stairs with ease. Take a look at the demonstration video to see how they work: evacchair.co.uk/products/evacchair-300h
Cost for 2 chairs and training: £4,250
