The Story

Please support Peterborough Cathedral this Christmas. The Cathedral remains a place of reassurance and hope during challenging times, opening its doors for people to explore its history, enjoy its events, marvel at its architecture, worship and pray, or simply walk in its beautiful green space. The doors are open online too, with daily worship available online. To heat and light the building costs around £90,000 a year. To maintain the grounds costs another £60,000. There are many other unavoidable costs in making sure the Cathedral is a safe and special place, quite apart from repairs to its Grade 1 listed fabric. The Cathedral makes no formal charge to enter and receives no regular financial support towards these annual costs from local or central government, nor from the diocese and its churches. It works hard to find grants from all possible sources, including the Church of England, but these only cover part of its outgoings, so the support of individuals and companies remains vital. PLEASE CLICK THE 'Add a message' BUTTON AS YOU DONATE, TO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE WRITTEN ON YOUR KEY. You, or groups of friends, family or colleagues, are invited to make a donation of £25, £50 or £100 and a red-ribboned key will be placed on the Christmas tree inside the Cathedral for you. You can add a personal message to your key if you wish and we will make sure that this is included. You can also ask us to post your Christmas Key to you in January, as a keepsake. We will contact you after Christmas to let you know how much the Christmas Keys appeal has raised. #ChristmasKeys
