The Story
The situation is critical: unless £300,000 is raised before the end of March 2025, the Cathedral will struggle to keep its doors open. This would mean potentially losing not just a cherished visitor attraction, but also a space for prayer, reflection, and community gatherings, that welcomes people of all faiths and none.
Rising costs, such as higher energy bills, increased staff wages, and the growing expense of maintaining a Grade I listed site, are putting immense financial pressure on the Cathedral.
Each year, it welcomes thousands of visitors for worship, events, and educational activities and is an important footfall driver for the city centre.
Running the Cathedral costs over £2 million annually. With no regular funding from the Church or the government, the Cathedral relies on visitor donations, commercial activities, and generous supporters.
The Cathedral has enjoyed a record year of commercial events, with over 30,000 people visiting our Monsters of the Sea Exhibition in the summer. We have also streamlined our structures and ways of working but we still cannot keep pace with the rising cost of living, which is affecting us all.
Urgent funding is now needed in order for us to continue with our worship, music, educational youth work and essential repairs.
Your support plays a crucial role in sustaining the life and mission of this extraordinary place, which has stood at the heart of Peterborough for nearly 1,400 years.
Thank you for giving what you can. Together we can save our cathedral.
