Vinchu Kumar Appeal

This is a heartfelt and urgent request on behalf of Vinchu Kumar, a 49-year-old, who has been living and working in Croydon, UK for the past 13 years. Today, he finds himself in a fight for his life, battling blood cancer while struggling to keep his family afloat. Vinchu’s life took an unexpected turn when his wife, who had moved to the UK 20 years ago, began to suffer from severe mental health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a desperate attempt to care for her, Vinchu brought his wife and their 12-year-old child back to Kerala, where they began living with his 80-year-old mother. Despite the distance, Vinchu continued working tirelessly in the UK, sending money home for his wife’s treatment and family’s well-being. But fate had another cruel twist in store. Just a month and a half ago, Vinchu returned to Kerala after feeling unwell, only to be diagnosed with blood cancer. He is now undergoing chemotherapy at RCC in Thiruvananthapuram. Doctors have warned that unless he completes urgent treatment and regains strength, he will not be fit to fly back to the UK, where advanced medical care could save his life. Time is critical, and the expenses have already overwhelmed the family. In the past month alone, Vinchu’s family has spent over INR 12 lakhs on his treatment. With no income now and mounting medical bills, they face an uncertain and frightening future. Back in Kerala, his wife and mother are both unwell, and his child is being cared for by Vinchu’s sister, who herself is recovering from breast cancer. This family has endured more than their share of suffering, and their resources have run dry. Vinchu has no property or home in the UK, only a rented space he can no longer afford. The family owns a small piece of land and a house in Kerala, but it is already burdened with a debt of INR 35 lakhs, which was taken to meet earlier financial needs. Life, which once seemed secure, has now become a daily struggle for survival. Despite all this hardship, there is hope. Vinchu recently received his British passport, and if he can recover enough to travel, he can access healthcare and other support in the UK. This would allow him not only to continue his own treatment but also to bring his wife and child back, where they too can receive the care they desperately need. It’s a chance for this family to rebuild their lives, to hope again, and to leave behind the endless cycle of illness and despair.
