The Story

For the next few months I am going to be exchanging my running shoes for walking boots as I am taking on a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5,895m, the highest mountain in Africa. I am taking on this challenge in memory of my good friend and walking companion, Chris Richardson, who died suddenly on Boxing Day, 2022 and to raise funds for Bounds Green Food Bank (BGFB). Although Chris was not involved with BGFB, he worked tirelessly at the Living Well food bank in Penge to provide nourishing meals for those in need so I’m sure that he would approve of me asking for sponsorship to support BGFB and its guests. The Kilimanjaro challenge is graded as “extreme” and will be very different from running a marathon, my last sponsored challenge. While for both a marathon and trek I can train to ensure I have the right level of fitness, living in the UK where even the highest point (Ben Nevis) is only 1,343m (4,406ft), I cannot prepare for going to a height of 5895m (19,340ft) so I have no idea how I will react to the altitude. However, I'm sure that every pound I raise will help me breathe more easily so I hope you will support me to the top of the mountain! ***If you are a taxpayer, please remember to add gift aid, as the food bank will receive an extra 25% of your donation at no extra cost to you!***

Bounds Green Food Bank

Bounds Green Food Bank (BGFB) was set up in 2020 to support local residents facing food insecurity as a short term measure during the Covid pandemic but since then the need has grown significantly and we now have over 350 guests visiting the Food Bank every week. This equates to around 1,000 adults and children locally still facing food insecurity. BGFB is an independent community-based charity run entirely by volunteers and relies on food and cash donations. BGFB needs to raise over £60,000 each year so I would be very grateful for whatever you can afford or would like to donate to help me support the work of Bounds Green Food Bank, whether that’s £1 or lots more!
