The Story
In 2024 I took on a trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro - the “top of Africa” - in memory of my friend, Chris, and to raise funds for Bounds Green Food Bank (BGFB). A big thank you to all those who sponsored me, helping to raise over £4,000.
This year I am aiming for the “top of the world”, or at least Everest Base Camp! Like the Kilimanjaro challenge, the Everest trek is graded as “extreme” but, compared to Kilimanjaro, I will be spending twice the number of days at high altitude, reaching 5,545m (18,192 ft) at the highest point of the trek. Because the trail constantly goes up and down over ridges and valleys before reaching the final destination, I will accumulate over 6,000m (20,000ft) worth of total climbing and descending over the 130 km (80-mile) round trip.
The cost of providing a weekly basket of food, personal care and household items to those in our community still in need continues to rise so I am again asking for sponsorship.
I was fortunate not to experience any serious mountain sickness in 2024 but that is no guarantee that I will not suffer the effects of high altitude this time, however, I'm sure that every pound I raise will help me breathe more easily so I hope you will support me to the top of the world!
Trekking schedule:
Day 1) 2,600m, 4 hours
Day 2) 3,446m, 7 hours
Day 3) 3,600m, 3 hours
Day 4) 3,840m, 6 hours
Day 5) 4,000m, 6 hours
Day 6) 4,360m, 6 hours
Day 7) Acclimatisation to very high altitude
Day 8) 4,930m, 5 hours
Day 9) 5,160m, 8 hours - to Everest Base Camp!
Day 10) 4,243m, 7 hours
Day 11) 3,446m, 8 hours
Day 12) 2,827m, 7 hours
***If you are a taxpayer, please remember to add gift aid, as the food bank will receive an extra 25% of your donation at no extra cost to you!**

Vision
We envisage a community in which everyone has access to food and other essentials.
Mission
Our commitment is to share food across our community and improve lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow.
We aim to:
• Promote social inclusion by supporting people who find themselves in a crisis situation where they need assistance to feed themselves and their families.
• Provide first tier support and advice where needed, so that people can access available welfare entitlements and other support services.
• Create opportunities for both guests and volunteers to broaden their skills and experiences so that we as a community develop and grow.
"So proud of you for taking on another fundraising trek, what an amazing experience. You deserve to smash your target. Safe travels. Jacky & Ron x "
