Sandra is raising money for the William Reid School, ZAMBIA

My dream of running a marathon is hopefully coming true on 24th May in Edinburgh. For the last 20 years I've enjoyed being a VERY LEISURELY jogger around the countryside where I live. Things developed when I ran the Glasgow half marathon in October 2024 and I was pleased then to raise funds to help with building the William Reid School in Zambia. That experience spurred me on to try for a marathon. So here I am, setting off on a training run for the Edinburgh Marathon, which is on 24th May. I have again decided to do a sponsored race to motivate me. Having worked at Penicuik Medical Practice and hearing of Baraka Community Partnerships and the work being done at the William Reid School, I am again aiming to raise funds to help the school. I believe that children's education is really important, and Baraka Community Partnerships and the William Reid School is a great cause and an inspiration. When I embarked on the training, I knew 26 miles was a BIG step up from 13 and it certainly is! The training can be pretty punishing on my wee legs, amazingly though, I am enjoying the discipline of the training, with the end goal of raising funds for the school (and hopefully achieving my dream) in sight. I am very much looking forward to getting to the starting line and looking forward even more to hopefully getting to the finish line! Sandra Mackenzie 28.04.2026.
