The Story
On Sunday 6th September Dr Drummond Begg will be participating in the 120Km cycling route, Tour of the Scottish Borders in Aid of William Reid School in Zambia.
The route will encompass the wilds of the Upper Tweed Basin, the source of the River Tweed, Moffat Town and the famous Devil’s Beef Tub. Then through the glacial valley of Moffat Dale passing the Grey Mares Tail waterfall. After a cracker of a climb the route will start a long decent to St Mary’s Loch then heading up Paddy Slacks Climb over the pass to Traquair and along the final Kms’ ending in Peebles.
William Reid School in Kapiri Mposhi District, Zambia was built in 2020/21 by Baraka Community Partnership together with the local community. It was entirely funded by donations from the family and friends of the late Dr William Reid. William died age 25 in a skiing accident.
Baraka Community Partnerships and the supporters of William Reid School are delighted that the school is thriving, with pupil numbers continuing to grow. This growth means the school is now in urgent need of a new classroom, and any funds raised through Dr Drummond Begg's cycle ride will go directly towards making this a reality.
