Raising money for AWOL (Animal welfare of Luxor)

Animal Welfare of Luxor is registered with the charity commission in England to provide help for animals worldwide but operates mainly in Luxor Egypt where it runs a veterinary treatment centre and mobile clinics. The charity provides free veterinary care, soft tack, and dog collars. All treatment is free. The agricultural areas of Luxor are extremely poor and owners cannot afford to treat their animals. Working donkeys are still used as people cannot afford even a tuk-tuk to carry their loads. These poor animals have a hard life and AWOL's care is essential. Dogs are treated badly in many instances. They are not valued and receive very little care. Street dogs roam the villages, tourist sites, and towns looking for scraps of food. Owned dogs are often tied up on short chains all day in heat reaching nearly 50 degrees centigrade in summer. Chains, rope, and string used as collars can result in badly cut necks. AWOL introduced the first TNR (trap neuter release) program in Luxor to try to control the number of street dogs who can be at risk of poisoning by locals and local authorities. AWOL tries to educate owners about animal care. There is very little knowledge about animal welfare in rural Luxor and, even today, some of the local farmers and villagers are illiterate and uneducated. AWOL has a small legacy fund which it has used to help animals with urgent life-saving surgery in other countries. All other supporter donations go towards helping the animals in Luxor.
