The Story
LGA data shows more than 600 youth centres closed and nearly 139,000 youth service places were lost in the UK between 2012 and 2016. Central government funding for children and young people’s services has fallen by £2.4bn since 2010, and LGA analysis shows that a further £3bn will be needed by 2025 just to maintain services at their current levels.
Last year, the unemployment rate in London reached nearly 7%, while it stayed just above 5% for the entire UK. Recovery from the pandemic is still underway, and the impacts are still being felt by many. Research suggests that London’s unemployment total is expected to peak at 9.4% by the end of 2021, according to new forecasting commissioned by London Councils. Many will need social and economic support in the years to come while we all recover from these effects.
We are currently looking to raise £50,000 to renovate a community building in Barnet which has been closed for over 10 years. With your support, we will be able to expand access to education and resources and eliminate food poverty by setting up a community hub. We believe our hub will be effective because we will be incorporating our proven techniques and programs, as well as channelling community members’ voices in its operation and services.
We ask that you consider supporting our cause by donating any amount of money. It would be extremely helpful to us. Your donation will also be acknowledged in several ways.
