The Story

Can you help fundraising brothers Lucas and Patrick climb three of Scotland’s towering sea stacks? Meet Lucas, 13, and Patrick, 11, Diver from Dunning, Perthshire. These brothers are taking on an extraordinary climbing challenge this summer to raise money for their local Scout group. They’ll be tackling three of Scotland’s most iconic sea stacks – the Old Man of Stoer, Am Buachaille and the Old Man of Hoy. These sea stacks are not for the faint hearted – the Old Man of Hoy is the highest of the three, coming in at a lofty 137 metres – but then Lucas and Patrick are no strangers to dizzy heights. The brothers have been climbing since they were seven years old, having found a passion for the sport during climbing opportunities with the Dunning Scout Group. The brothers are part of Climbing Scotland’s Scottish Development Squad, and when Patrick won the Youth Climbing Series in 2024, he got to choose a sky-high prize thanks to Highland Outdoor Adventure – the chance to take on three of Scotland’s towering sea stacks. What’s more, he gets to take his big brother with him for the ride. Now both Scouts, the boys both started as Beavers in the group, with Lucas being one of the original 13 Beavers when Dunning Scout Group was reformed in 2017. They’ve loved every minute of their time with the group. That’s why they wanted to use their Three Stack Summer to fundraise for them – so other children get the brilliant opportunities they did to ‘fall’ for climbing! So, can you help the boys reach their fundraising goal this August? Could you sponsor both Lucas and Patrick £1 per stack? Of course we’d welcome any contribution! Watch their video! and feel inspired vimeo.com/1100251594 The challenge will be taking place from 10-14 August 2025.

26th Perthshire (Dunning) Scout Group

We are a very active Scout group, with Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections, plus host to an Explorer Scouts Unit. Each Section meets weekly on an evening during school term time, and we aim to hold either an overnight residential event or special trip during each term. We spend as much time as possible around the village of Dunning, usually outdoors in our base in the community-owned Kincladie Wood; when daylight and the weather’s against us we meet in Dunning Village Hall. In addition to offering a wide range of activities and skills to our young people 6-17 years old, we support the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and Young Leaders (14-17yrs), and have a fantastic network of adult volunteers to keep everything running. We want to ensure participation in Scouting does not need to be a privilege.
