Summary This project will give hope to 500 orphans of Reaching Hand children's home enabling them to continue their studies in an English and French medium school, provide further computer training, life skills, extra-curricular activities and career guidance to strengthen their dreams of becoming leaders & productive citizens of Cameroon. The goal of the project is to make "Today's Destitute into Tomorrow's Leader". We have a long term plan to reach out to 500 children aged between 6-18 years through this project. Challenge According to UNICEF in 2007, there are an astounding 240,000 orphans recorded in Cameroon as a result of HIV/AIDS, and are increased with terrorism effects,26% of all orphans (Source UNICEF). Orphans are put at immediate risk because they are often seen as a burden on relatives in this society. Children living in these situations are in danger of losing opportunities for school, health care, growth, development, nutrition, and shelter; in short, their rights to a decent and fulfilling life. Moreover, with the death of a parent, children experience profound loss and a heavy burden. Solution Reaching Hand creates an environment of care & compassion for all those in need, particularly for children who are vulnerable and deprived. By identifying the needs of each child accordingly we provide counselling and mentoring as well as a clean living environment, nutritious food, uniforms, schooling needs, quality education, extra-curricular activities with life skills training that make them leader of tomorrow. Long-Term Impact The project will build the lives of 500 orphans and destitute children, making them the productive citizens of tomorrow so that they can contribute to their family, society and country. Over the next 2 years, Reaching Hand will be touching the lives of hundreds more children by providing them the protective shelter, parental care, and opportunities to harness their talents and dreams.
