Paint Purley Purple – July/August
The Paint Purley Purple campaign is an annual community initiative that aims to raise awareness and funds for SECHC's support for local individuals affected by cancer.
Paint Purley Purple is a vibrant community event where residents, schools, businesses, and organisations in Purley are encouraged to decorate their premises in purple and lavender, the colour associated with support for those living with all types of cancer. Activities include all the trees in town centre being decorated in purple knitting, purple-themed office decorations, fundraising events, and awareness campaigns throughout July and August. We also bring the celebrations to those of the community that cannot always access the town centre. For example, we will be holding a PPP Summer Garden Party at Purley Gardens Care Home where residents, their families and staff can all get involved in the celebrations.
We need knitters and people to help decorate the trees in the town (no climbing up ladders required!)
How It Benefits the Community
•Increased Cancer Awareness: The campaign brings attention to the challenges faced by those affected by cancer and raises awareness of the local support available.
•Fundraising for SECHC: Funds raised during the campaign support SECHC's services, including counselling, complementary therapies, and support groups for cancer patients and their families.
•Community Engagement: The initiative fosters a sense of unity as local businesses, schools, and residents come together for a common cause supporting their neighbours.
•Support for Local Economy: Events and activities associated with the campaign can boost local businesses by attracting visitors and encouraging community participation.
•Volunteer Opportunities: The campaign provides avenues for individuals to volunteer, enhancing community involvement and support networks.
Paint Purley Purple serves as a meaningful way for the Purley community to support those affected by cancer while strengthening local bonds and promoting awareness.
