We are looking for a volunteer to join our £1 a week club to help us promote the fundraising efforts within communities, companies, or social media to help us achieve our fundraising targets of recruiting 1000 members which will help the £1 a week club to generate regular income £1000 a month (£52,000/year). The funds generated will help us to provide vital healthcare to disadvantaged children in the rural village of Alemere, Amolatar District Northern Uganda. The impact of the funds raised will be as follows: 1; Why £1 a week club? £1 a week club will help us promote the act of kindness which is one of the traits that make us human and connects us to each other. £1 a week club will help us to strengthen this act of kindness within communities, companies and will help save and transform the life of an underprivileged child. We believe that £1 a week donation is affordable, it will bring communities together, and will empower individuals through the impact of their donations, and will members and communities overcome the negative impact of COVID-19. £1 a week club will help individual members to be part of a legacy of building a hospital with a £1 a week donation(£52 a year donation). £1 a week donation is sustainable and will help us to raise money to build a rural hospital that will save and transform the lives of underprivileged children in Africa. £1 a week club will promote collaboration among members, will help members and communities to learn from each other. £1 a week club has a target of 1000 members which will help bring a collection of different knowledge, skills, and experiences together, will promote the act of volunteering and efficient use of skills, knowledge, and experiences to empower communities 2; The Impact of the £1 a week donation 2.1; With a donation of £1 it can treat a child suffering from malaria and £52 per year will treat 52 children. Therefore, a donation of £1 a week will help save the life of 52 children a year, and if 10 people join we will be able to raise £520 a year which will help us to provide malarial treatment to 5,200 children a year. 2.2; A donation of £1 can buy a mosquito net and three children could sleep under one mosquito net. Therefore, a donation of £1 will prevent three children from catching malaria and a donation of £52 per year will prevent 156 children from catching malaria. And if 10 people join we can raise £520 a year and therefore we will be able to prevent 1560 children from catching malaria. 2.3; We could use £5,000 to buy a second-hand ambulance and ship it to the hospital. The ambulance would save many lives because patients with critical conditions can be transported quickly to the hospital. 2.4; £1 a week will help us raise £52,000 a year if 1000 people join and this will help us to upgrade the Marjorie Moxon Maternity unit to a hospital. This will help over 400,000 people to access quality essential treatment. 2.5; £1 a week donation will help us to reduce maternally and infant mortality which is still a challenge in Uganda and especially in rural areas where poor health infrastructure and lack of medical equipment and supplies result in inadequate healthcare services to the needy rural population. 2.6; Uganda population census 2014 recorded infant mortality rate under five of 53 children per 1000 live births and under-five mortality rates of 80 per 1000 births. The above has been caused partly by shortages and limited healthcare facilities which deprive women of the opportunity to safely deliver and £1 a week donation will help us reduce these mortality rates. 2.7; One in 30 babies dies in the first month of life in Uganda (WHO, UNICEF 2015) and every day, 15 women die in Uganda from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes. It is estimated that each year in Uganda approximately 5,700 women and girls die in pregnancy and childbirth. Uganda has been reported to have one of the highest mortality rates in the world (WHO, UNICEF 2015). £1 a week donation will help us reduce these pregnancy and childbirth-related causes, therefore, reducing maternal and child deaths. 2.8; £1 a week donation will help us to ship donation of 1X 40-foot container of medical supplies, filled with patients’ beds, dental surgery, operating equipment, diagnostic equipment, laboratory equipment, Maternity equipment, x-ray equipment, medicine, and medical supplies worth approximately £100,000 to Marjorie Moxon Community Hospital. 1x 40-foot container cost £10,000 to Lira Uganda. A container of medical supplies. 2.9; £1 a week donation will help us to build the hospital which will provide quality maternal healthcare services offering the opportunity for women to: have access to high-quality antenatal care, ideally attending at least four times during pregnancy. This helps to pick up risks early on and can be used to ensure women receive the right level of care when giving birth. have support from a skilled birth attendant (that is a suitably trained doctor, midwife, or nurse) when giving birth. give birth in a well-equipped hospital or health centre. understand and have voluntary access to modern family planning. 2.10; Building Marjorie Moxon Community Hospital will reduce causes of deaths in pregnancy and childbirth such as: Severe bleeding (mostly after childbirth) Infections High blood pressure during pregnancy (pre-eclampsia and eclampsia) Unsafe abortions These have been found to account for 80% of deaths.
