Project Boond: A Life-Saving Water Conservation Initiative
Introduction: Water is the lifeline of our planet, essential for agriculture, industries, and human survival. Yet over 2 billion people lack access to clean water, with this number expected to rise. This escalating water crisis is severely affecting communities, particularly in water-stressed regions like Kolar, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Hydragreens Foundation is addressing this issue through Project Boond, which aims to revitalize water-deprived areas by harvesting rainwater, replenishing groundwater, and promoting sustainable water usage.
The Challenge: Regions across India have faced chronic water shortages, leading to severe distress for both communities and agriculture. Groundwater levels have plummeted, and erratic rainfall exacerbates the situation. In places like Kolar, farmers have had to dig up to 2,000 feet to access water. The result: depleted water resources, lower agricultural productivity, and community hardship.
Our Solution: Project Boond is designed to offer preemptive solutions through innovative, locally-adapted interventions like check dams and rainwater harvesting structures. These solutions are aimed at ensuring year-round water availability, increasing groundwater levels, and improving the livelihoods of farmers by extending the periods when water is accessible.
We also focus on integrating rooftop rainwater harvesting, which channels excess rainwater to underground reservoirs, directly improving water security in water-scarce areas. This project will be implemented across multiple cities including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolar.
Key Objectives:
Replenish Groundwater: Create sustainable sources of water through rainwater harvesting and check dams.
Support Agriculture: Extend the water availability period, allowing farmers to grow crops year-round and increase income.
Community Engagement: Collaborate with local farmers, women’s groups, and environmental stakeholders to create long-term water solutions.
Sustainable Infrastructure: Build permanent water storage systems to ensure water availability even during dry seasons.
Impact So Far: Since the inception of Hydragreens, over 2,00,000+ saplings have been planted, and more than 800+ farmers have been supported in water-stressed regions
The work of Project Boond has already transformed agricultural productivity and community well-being in several areas, demonstrating the power of localized water conservation efforts
Call to Action: We are seeking partners, donors, and supporters to expand Project Boond and bring hope to more communities facing water scarcity. With your support, we can build a sustainable future where clean water is accessible to all. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.
