The Story
The InfraRed Charity Dodgeball event is a long-standing annual initiative that has raised over £200,000 for the InfraRed Charitable Foundation.
The 2024 edition was the 7th iteration and featured a fancy dress competition, a talk on community engagement and lots of dodgeball!
The event supports educational programmes, including initiatives at Oasis and Frederick Bremer schools.
The InfraRed Charitable Foundation
The InfraRed Charitable Foundation is an independent charity which provides grants to schools to fund the employment of Community Engagement Leads, who have the goal of reducing the impact of disproportionate barriers to education. Community Engagement Leads do this by organising initiatives to benefit disadvantaged students and coordinating local charities to contribute resources to the school community.
In 2024, the InfraRed Charitable Foundation awarded its second grant to Oasis Academy Shirley Park in Croydon to tackle youth violence and educational challenges. The school’s new Community Engagement Lead, who has deep ties to the area, focuses on pupil safeguarding and academic achievement. He leads a prevention programme, connect students with community groups, and creates work experience opportunities. The school was targeted as it has faced significant challenges, including a 2021 knife crime tragedy and a high proportion of students eligible for free school meals or lacking Level 3 qualifications.
