The Story
Bounds Green Food Bank was established in June 2020 by Bounds Green Mutual Aid and the Bowes Park Community Association as a resource for those in need in our community. As members of the neighbourhood, our volunteers reflect the wide range of backgrounds and beliefs of those living in our part of North London. We are united in the vision that everyone in our community should have access to food.
Thanks to grants from the London Community Response Fund and Haringey Giving, we were able to establish the Food Bank. However, to keep it running, the Food Bank will be reliant on fundraising from the local community.
Over 350 families visit the Food Bank each week with each family receiving a basket of food and other essential supplies. This includes fresh and long-life goods, cleaning products, toiletries and baby food. Unlike many food banks, we offer fresh fruit and vegetables and no vouchers are required, so everyone is welcome.
A total of 1200 people benefit from the Food Bank on a weekly basis and we are giving away over £15,000 worth of food every week, most of which is donated goods through individuals and suppliers. However, we still need to raise £60,000 a year to support the Food Bank which enables us not just to provide fresh food and essential goods, but in order to ensure our guests have coats, school uniforms, winter warmers and some festive cheer at Christmas time and Easter. You can support the Food Bank by making a monthly or one off donation.
Be part of this amazing project by donating whatever you are able to. With additional Gift Aid of 25% and the discount of 15% we receive when bulk buying goods, anything you donate will be worth over 40% more to the Food Bank. Whether it's £2 per month or £50 per month your support will go a long way in helping to support our our neighbours struggling with the impact of Covid-19, employment and food insecurity. We are also raising funds to purchase reconditioned laptops for local school children who are unable to learn from home when schools are shut as they do not have the necessary digital access.
